7 days of awesome

Well, it’s sort of more like 7 Days of Awesome x2. Or 14 days of awesome… oh, just let me count the reasons already!

Hammering out the details of my first photoshoot with a really talented lenswoman. & models & hair & makeup people. This is gunna be cray-zy awe-some.

When asked why I where my hair piece, if it is a part of my religion: “Why yes. It is a religion I created. A creative religion!”

Voicemail messages in song.

Turning 25 & it not being all that bad.

Surprise birthday thingies. I thought I hated birthdays, but…

Hugs. Familiar hugs & not-so-familiar hugs. Extended hugs or quickies, they’re all quite nice, I have to say.

Staying positive when poopy things happen (ie. exciting plans fall through).

Learning that The Dears will be visiting Toronto in the fall & then scoring my own sweet, sweet tickets.

Making mixed CDs for a friend. Dare I say a dying art…? I hope not! Not only are they so much fun to make, but they’re even more fun to receive. Bring it back, I say, bring it back!

Sharing cookies with a new friend.

Platters… serving a great variety of food. Such as: nacho platters, fruit platters, olive platters, meet & cheese & cracker platters… mmm.

Guacamole. Ever since happening upon this recipe, I have been a guacafiend. I am obsessed & not just because it’s a fun word to say. Gwackagwackagwacka-mole-eeee!

Long walks with a good, good friend.

Taking care of your clothes. After mending holes, replacing buttons, some minor alterations & quite a bit of ironing, I feel like I have a whole new wardrobe.

Accepting an opportunity to shopkeep at Ransack the Universe in the fall. (Details to follow.)

Tracking thread & fibers all over the house. It seems to drive the F-I-L crazy but I can’t help but smile at my creative trails…

What has made this past week – or two – so awesome for you?

Custom bridal hair pieces

This was my very first request for custom bridal hair pieces. I was totally thrilled when Made You Look contacted me on behalf of a lovely new bride-to-be. She was about to be wed! & wanted beautiful vintage-inspired pieces for her each of her bridesmaids. Then… she asked if I could make a veil for her, & not just any kind of veil. A birdcage veil that was completely removable (so that she could be more comfortable at the reception & for many wears after the wedding). It was a challenge but I was very much up for it & I do believe I nailed it. What do you think?

Something blue for the bride… errrrg!!! Just imagine how beautiful this will look on a real bride!

& she chose the most lovely vintage silk ties. The brown tones will be so complimentary in any hair colour.

I really cannot wait to see these on the beautiful ladies that will be wearing them. My photos don’t do them any justice at all. But I just had to share!

Me & my values

Hello! So I’m Cassandra – the creator, maker & the girl behind behind tweek. & this whole blog thingy.

I have never been able to categorize myself as any one thing. I dabble in many forms of art & craft. You could say that I have a short attention span & so I keep things interesting by working with my hands – sewing, cutting, pasting, thrifting, altering, stripping furniture, painting, doodling, journalling. I play with graphic & web design; this is a part of my academic background.
I have great appreciation for creativity in all forms. I admire talented creators & love seeking out new things to see. When it comes to my own creativity, I take inspiration & ideas from the world around me. My eyes are always open for new sources of stimulation. I love to see creativity as something that is free, without boundaries and rules… I think I am a rebel at heart.

I know what I like & what I don’t & that is pretty awesome. For example, this is what I like – let’s call them my values:

I originally started this website, this “blog,” as a way to market my business. Since then, I have realized that it can be so much more. It can be my way to share. To tell my story, to reach out to others & connect with my right people. To find my place in the community.
[Side note: I have always struggled with opening up & sharing about myself... in fact it is my biggest battle. My business has given me a good, hard chance to ask myself why that is & it is something that I am working on each day. I do not think I have ever felt this comfortable in my own skin. This is big. Huge for me. Monumental!]

When I think about my values, the things that are most precious to me, I realize that these are not terribly uncommon things. & you, dearest you, I trust that you can relate to some of these things. Stick around, won’t you? I’m sure there is a little something I can learn from you.

Tell me, what are the (non-material) things that you value most?

7 days of awesome

This week has been pretty great. Let me tell you why.

Laughing until you’re crying. This is the best.

Outfitting my bike with a second basket. I can now carry mega loads! &…

Hauling back an insane amount of incredible vintage finds from one of my favourite local second-hand shops.

Getting the help you need. It is silly to do absolutely everything yourself. For once, I asked for it. Then I received it & with wide open arms!

Recognizing & overcoming major blockages. Enough said. I am incredibly happy to be feeling unstuck.

Planning for big things. Just you wait…

Attending a gala for the first time ever. It is simply a fancier term for the word “party,” but you can bet that I wore the biggest pearls I could find (& a vintage-inspired hair piece, made by me, of course). I was there to support my dear friend who re-designed shoes for a fashion show/charity auction for Windfall. This was at the Bata Shoe Museum, which happens to be a very fascinating place. The entire night was such a delight.

Root beer floats. Until yesterday, I forgot that I love these. Since yesterday, I think I’ve had four homemade floats. Mmm!!

Surprise picnics on rainy days. Oh & incredibly huge, mammoth, gargantuan hand-held umbrellas. Those are particularly awesome.

Do share – what has made this week so awesome for you?

7 days of awesome

Reflection is an important thing to do. It is Sunday, the majority of the week is over, you’ve worked hard, bunches has happened, you’ve had some time to unwind & relax, & now you’re beginning to look forward to what great things the following week has to offer… but wait – not so fast! Allow me to share why this past week has been awesome.

Asking for what I want. And getting it.

Being invited to join Freedom Clothing Collective. This place is awesome & tweek can now be found there.

Completing my first custom order for a bridal party. Including hair pieces for each of the bridesmaids, & something beautifully blue for the bride. Needless to say, this was very exciting for me & I am very happy to do it again.

Expanding product line into functional housewares. This is one of my goals! Thanks to Tomorrow Never Knows for letting me try a few things.

Replenishing stock at some of my favourite local retailers.

Finding new sources.

Re-writing my business plan. A lot has changed since I wrote my first half-assed business plan. Now I have a little more clarity on what I want my business to be, what my niche is, & who my right people are. I have been doing a lot of thinking & writing about this, & it’s been getting me excited. Verrry excited.

♥ Christmas in July! I recently participated in a trade event on Etsy & needless to say, this week has been like Christmas! Except all of the gifts are AWESOME, chosen by me & made by wonderfully talented makers! It has been so self-indulgent & GREAT.

A new mode of transportation. Not only did I finally SELL my gas-guzzling car (after three months of it parked in the driveway, what a relief), but I also picked up my new ride… the bike from my dreams! I love it so much & I have been getting much use out of it already. And more… it makes me tremendously happy to have a not-so-sucky way to exercise.

More on transportation. I have realized that the best seat on the subway is the one at the very front, beside the driver. Why have I never rode there before this week? It is AWESOME.

♥ Cleaning up & decluttering my work space. Ahhhh… much better.

Beginning to look for my new home (& studio space). It has been almost exactly one year since begrudgingly moving in with my parents-in-(basically-)law to help with our finances. Things have been looking on the up & up for some time, & we think we’re ready to make the move back out into the world on our own. I cannot wait to have an awesome work space with a window, dammit.

♥ Seeing live comedy. There is nothing, no such thing, that is better than a good laugh. This is why I have taken to loving comedy so much. Monday nights have been a blast watching The Sitcom Show. I so look forward to season two.

Having a wonderful sister who graciously offers her helping hands. (I am so happy & appreciative, thank you!)

And now I ask you… what has made this week so awesome?

My terribly messy work space

I’ve had an incredibly busy week filled with fly-by-the-seat-of-my-pants opportunities, custom creations and orders to ship, not to mention stock replenishment. All good! No complaints. So what gives?

The point of this blog post is this:

Holy crow! My work space has become so messy!

And that’s just my table. A quick tidy-up could make all the difference, but at this point, I feel I could use an overhaul. Things are becoming cluttered and this makes for an uninspiring space. Perhaps I should do some “work” on my “work” space to make it “work” better for me… in fact, I think that’s just what I’ll do. Stay tuned for the transformation!

Working on a secret project

Opportunities are presenting themselves and the time to act is now! I’ve been working on a very special secret project…

…we’ll have to wait and see where it leads.

I love vintage dresses

This was officially my first time shopping at 69 Vintage Collective and I have to say it was so much fun. I picked up some really great dresses! Which was the goal I had in mind from the start.

This emerald dress is from a merchant called Electric Eel Vintage. I love the doily detail – so granny chic.

This rainbow bright-like dress is way too fun! From Tomorrow Never Knows.

Raspberry with tiny white polka dots and a bow at the neck, uhhh, I love it! To top it off, it was a 69 Vintage “Buy the Pound” spectacular.

I’ve been enjoying wearing each of these summer dresses, but admit that I have had some difficulty in finding the perfect shoes to wear with each of them around the town…

Sounds to me like the perfect excuse to shop. The search continues!

WORN Fashion Journal

Oooh, I’ve got mail! Incredibly exciting, as always.

Aahh!!

I had been given a gift subscription to this magazine a few months back and today I received my first issue in the mail. I just love getting surprises like this in the mail!

If you’re not familiar with this marvelous indie publication, perhaps you would like to be. I highly recommend it.
